Foster to adopt your companion parrot with SWEAR
We SWEAR to do what’s right.
Rescue & Evaluation
It all begins with getting parrots in need the help they deserve. From rescues to relinquishments, SWEAR takes in birds that need our help. Experienced volunteers conduct an initial health, nutritional, and behavioral evaluations during the intake process. All birds are then medically screened through our network of experienced veterinarians to ensure we know just what they need.
Care & Placement
After our rescue parrots have been cleared by medical professionals, our team provides them with appropriate housing, food, toys, and interaction. Through rigorous screenings of potential foster “parronts,” including home visits, SWEAR uses foster homes and the foster-to-adopt process to place parrots in temporary and forever homes to live their best lives.
Continuing Support
SWEAR’s work doesn’t end with placement, however. We work throughout the Las Vegas area to provide continuing educational support for our foster and adopted parrots. We also use community events to educate the public about the incredible world of parrots, inform people about appropriate parrot care, and help ensure people understand the challenges of keeping parrots as pets.
SWEAR Serves Las Vegas
SWEAR serves the Las Vegas Valley and surrounding communities, including Henderson, North Las Vegas, and Summerlin. Because we are committed to the health and safety of birds in our care we cannot consider out-of-area fostering or adoptions.
FAQs
How does SWEAR care for so many parrots every year?
We have the best volunteers! And as a publicly funded 501(c)3 all-volunteer charity, 100% of your tax-deductible donations go right to making what we do possible. No bloated overhead here.
What makes SWEAR special?
Our SWEAR volunteers not only have decades of combined experience working with parrots, but work hard to stay current with updates in health, diet, behavior, and enrichment. We SWEAR to continue learning from world-class avian vets and experts so that we can provide the best care and education possible.
What is having a parrot like?
Parrots are like no other pet. Having a parrot is an incredibly rewarding experience, but it also requires great patience and commitment, the ability to provide for proper nutrition, safe and regularly cleaned housing, enrichment (including toys and exercise), and health care.
Does SWEAR sell birds?
We SWEAR that we will never, ever sell birds for profit and only work with qualified, committed foster and adoptive homes that we’ve carefully screened for suitability and parrot safety. During the required home visit part of the application process, we evaluate where a bird would live, the home’s routine and schedule, and make sure the home is free of dangerous pets, chemicals, and circumstances.
How can I make a donation to SWEAR?
You can make a tax-deductible donation at this link, by sending funds through PayPal (using our email address contact@swearlv.org), and through Network for Good.
Can I buy parrot toys from SWEAR?
Yes! When you buy your bird supplies from SWEAR you are not only helping to support the rescue, but more importantly, you are helping your bird live their best life. Please contact us for more information about bird supplies.
Can SWEAR help me with my bird?
If you need help with the care of your bird — no matter the reason — we may be able to help. We also have available bird toys and accessories at very reasonable prices.
Can SWEAR take my parrot?
At SWEAR, we understand that many parrot owners didn’t know about the challenges of parrot care before getting a bird, so we always start by evaluating if we can help you keep your bird. But we understand how life and circumstances can change, and doing what’s best for the bird is always our objective. Know that all of our foster and adoptive homes are carefully screened — if you must relinquish your bird, we can help make sure that it goes to a good, properly educated family to live their best life. If you find yourself in a situation where you are considering rehoming your bird, please contact us and we’ll talk through things with you.
